AV Design & Engineering Suite

A professional AV system-design platform — the product I own end to end. Engineers design systems, create floor plans, build signal-flow diagrams, manage rack elevations, map I/O connections, and generate full project documentation from a single cloud workspace.

Overview

The AV Design & Engineering Suite is a professional system-design platform that unifies floor planning, signal-flow engineering, rack elevations, equipment cataloging, and project documentation into a single cloud workspace. It replaces a fragmented toolchain — CAD drawings, spreadsheets, and hand-built bills of materials — with one source of truth where a change to the diagram flows straight through to schedules and reports, so AV engineers design faster and document automatically.

What I Built

Floor Plan Designer

A drag-and-drop React Flow canvas for placing equipment on scaled floor plans, with automatic equipment IDs and cross-sheet links.

Signal Flow Diagrams

Wiring & signal-flow schematics with wire / cable classification and connector typing across multi-sheet projects.

Rack Elevations

Interactive rack editors (1U–42U, front & rear faces) for mounting devices and laying out equipment with real-world units.

Equipment Catalog

A searchable catalog of AV products that drives placement, specs, and downstream documentation.

BOM & Cable Schedules

Auto-generated bills of materials and cable schedules derived directly from the diagram — no manual re-entry.

Engineering Reports & Export

Project documentation and engineering reports with high-fidelity SVG / PDF export, plus AI-assisted diagram generation.

The Problem

  • Fragmented Tooling

Engineers juggled CAD software, spreadsheets, and PDFs; data drifted between them and constant re-entry made errors almost inevitable.

  • Complex Spatial Interactions

Placing equipment on scaled plans, racks, and schematics demands precise drag-and-drop, snapping, and coordinate handling that generic tools simply don't provide.

  • Manual Documentation

Bills of materials and cable schedules were assembled by hand from drawings — slow, tedious, and inconsistent across revisions.

  • Cross-Sheet Consistency

A single device appears on a floor plan, a rack elevation, and a schematic; keeping its ID and connections in sync across every sheet is genuinely hard.

  • Performance at Scale

Large projects contain hundreds of nodes and connections that must stay smooth to pan, zoom, and edit without lag.

The Solution

  • Unified Cloud Canvas

A React Flow–based canvas hosts floor plans, signal-flow diagrams, and rack elevations in one workspace, all backed by a single shared equipment model.

  • Precision Drag-and-Drop & Snapping

Custom nodes, ports, and coordinate transforms give engineers accurate placement with real-world units — including 1U–42U racks with front and rear faces.

  • Auto-Generated BOM & Cable Schedules

Documentation is derived directly from the diagram, eliminating manual re-entry and keeping every output in sync with the live design.

  • Cross-Sheet Linking & Equipment IDs

Automatic equipment IDs and cross-sheet links keep devices and their connections consistent everywhere they appear.

  • High-Fidelity Export & AI Assist

Crisp SVG / PDF export produces real engineering documentation, while AI-assisted generation accelerates first drafts of diagrams.

The Result

The suite collapses a multi-tool workflow into a single platform: engineers design faster, documentation generates itself from the source of truth, and projects stay consistent from floor plan to cable schedule. Hours of manual documentation become a single click — reducing errors and freeing engineers to focus on the design itself.
